Premium Rugs

Designers draw intricate patterns, inspired by traditional motifs or modern aesthetics. These serve as the blueprint for the entire rug-making process.

High-quality wool is essential for a durable and beautiful rug – artisans choose wool based on its texture and strength.   

The wool is then carded: a combing process that  aligns the fibres and removes any impurities. This ensures a consistent feel to the yarn.  

The carded wool is spun into yarn either by hand or using a spinning wheel. The thickness and twist of the yarn can be adjusted to ensure the desired texture. 

Artisans tie individual knots of dyed yarn into a foundation of strong threads, following the design’s pattern. The density and type of knots determine the rug’s texture and durability.  

After knotting, the rug is washed to remove any excess dye and to soften the wool. This  sets the colours and is one of the final steps of the intricate process.  

Quality control is crucial – knot counting ensures that the rug has the correct number of knots per square inch, which is a key indicator of the rug’s quality. The higher the knot count, the plusher the rug pile.  

Some rugs feature carved patterns to add depth and texture. This involves carefully hand trimming the pile to create raised and recessed designs.  

The final step involves trimming any excess yarn and ensuring the rug’s edges are neat and even.
